About

This website is dedicated to my mother, Taly Weiss, who lost her two year battle to pancreatic cancer on June 10th 2010. The purpose of this site is to raise awareness about pancreatic cancer, promote a fundraiser to find a cure, be an outlet to anyone who has been touched by cancer and continues to progress through the motions of the healing process (this includes myself), and honour my mother’s love of life.

The website is titled “Hope for Taly” because it’s something she never stopped believing in. She truly was, and still is an inspiration to me, and the driving force behind this website. She stayed strong through all the chemo appointments, invasive and painful procedures, and constant bad news from the doctors. In her last week, with almost all motor and speech skills impaired due to organ failure and obscene amounts of pain medications, she spoke with her doctor about hope. I have no idea how someone can stay so brave, but my mother was one of a kind. Anyone who knew her is blessed they had a chance to be a part of her life and, just like myself, be inspired by her positive courage. When she had passed after 3 weeks of being in the hospital I finally returned home to find a folder on her desk containing information for a drug plan from Princess Margaret Hospital. It was titled “There is Hope” and written underneath, in big bold letters, my mother’s handwriting, her final message. “FOR ME”.

This picture was taken during a family vacation to Israel on March 2010, a mere 2 months before her passing. We were celebrating my cousin's wedding at a "post marriage BBQ" in her beautiful backyard. From left is my father Sam, myself, and my mother Taly.

I encourage everyone who visits this site to leave at least one comment, share at least one story, or take the time to donate. Pancreatic cancer is one of the most underfunded of all cancers and is the most lethal, killing 75% of patients within their first year of diagnosis. We may not see a cure within our lifetime, but with better funding we can bring this statistic down.

Donate to Hope for Taly’s fund by clicking the button above. Please send me your mailing address with your name, and the amount you donated to receive a receipt.

Liat, I am so proud of you for taking on such a great project. Your mother must also be smiling down upon you at this moment.

Taly was one of the truly great people that I’ve had the pleasure of knowing as a friend. She was always full of life, inquisitive about everything, and appreciative of all that is good and fun. She was a truly talented artist and I treasure her gifts to us every time I glance upon them.

    Good luck in your quest.

    Hi Liat,

I worked with your mother at Datacom Marketing years ago. I was shocked and saddened to hear of her passing, but very grateful to have known her, and that she had such a beautiful daughter to continue her wonderful legacy. People pass, but our memories of them live on for eternity & I wish you and your family the best and offer my deepest condolences.

      Hi Joanne,

Paul just added me on facebook too. I’m so happy to hear from you both. I was starting to write you this email a while ago but was going through a stage of not wanting to tell people the news and eventualy just gave up on the email as a whole. I do apologize, but I’m glad that were keeping in touch again. I sent Paul a message 5 minutes ago.
